• Ms. Eckerty’s Class Policies

    • This is an academic learning environment.

      • Only academic conversations: No gossip

      • Academic, school appropriate language only

      • Respectable volume: should not hear you across the room unless it’s a presentation

      • Be an active participant in your learning.

      • Come prepared with academic materials

        • Binder

        • Notebook

        • Pencils/Pens/Highlighters

        • Homework

        • Open mind

    • Cell phones and headphones/airpods AWAY or their MINE for the period.

    • No talking while I am teaching or students are presenting/asking questions

    • NO GUM or FOOD. 

      • If you need to eat a snack, I will allow you to step outside for 2 minutes, but you are responsible for missed content.

    • The only music allowed is the music I play in the class (instrumental).

    • Only three-four students can be up at a time during independent work for academic purposes such as supplies, tissues, hand sanitizer, sharpening pencils, etc,

    • Bathroom breaks during independent time preferred

      • One at a time

      • Must complete the sign-out sheet

      • Student is responsible for missed content.

    • Absent? 

      • Students are responsible for getting missed notes and classwork from the absent/extra tub. 

        • Students are responsible for arranging a time to make up any missed quizzes and tests 

    • Grades

      • Students are expected to check their grades weekly. If a mistake is made, please let Ms. Eckerty know. 

    Ms. Eckerty's Expectations

    1.  Be Respectful

      1. To the classroom:

        1. No eating in class

        2. No chewing gum

        3. No throwing things in class

        4. Trash in the trash cans….not stuffed around the room

        5. Keep area neat and clean up after yourself

      2. To the teacher:

        1. Follow directions

      3. To classmates:

        1. No name calling

        2. No cussing

        3. Hands and feet to yourself 

        4. Treat others the way you wish to be treated

        5. No touching their things without their permission

      4. To the class supplies

        1. No breaking them

        3. Put them back in their spots

        4. Take care of them, they need to last for years and years

    Courses Taught: 

    • 7th Grade Ready Math (Period 3 or 4)

      • In Grade 7, students focus on four critical areas: (1) developing understanding of and applying proportional relationships; (2) developing understanding of operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear equations; (3) solving problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions, and working with two- and three-dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume; and (4) drawing inferences about populations based on samples. 

    • 8th Grade Ready Math (Period 1 or 2)

      • In Grade 8, students focus on three critical areas: (1) formulating and reasoning about expressions and equations, including modeling an association in bivariate data with a linear equation, and solving linear equations and systems of linear equations; (2) grasping the concept of a function and using functions to describe quantitative relationships; (3) analyzing two- and three-dimensional space and figures using distance, angle, similarity, and congruence, and understanding and applying the Pythagorean Theorem.

    • Math Support (Period 6)

      • In math support, students focus on critical areas taught in 4th-6th grade that will help students become prepared for high school algebra and geometry. Students in this course will work on fact fluency and math precision through the 8 standards of mathematical practice. This course will use a variety of real-life math connections, math games, hands-on labs, technology, AVID strategies, puzzles, collaboration, and much more.

    • PLUS: Peer Leaders Uniting Students (Application Required-After School Club) *Is an A-G course at the High School level

      • In PLUS, students will develop essential leadership skills, learn to foster inclusivity, and promote a supportive and connected school community. Students will engage in a variety of activities including team-building exercises, conflict resolution, and community service projects.

    Grading

    • All grades can be viewed through ParentVUE and StudentVUE

    • Grades are updated as follows: 1st period on Mon. 2nd Period on Tues. 3rd Period on Wed. 

             4th Period on Thurs. and 6th Period on Fri.

    • Late work is accepted but will consist of a 10% point deduction

    • Students may schedule a test/quiz retake if they complete all homework and classwork

    • Grades are weighted as follows:

      • 30% Unit Test/Lesson Quizzes 

      • 30% Performance Tasks

      • 25% Participation/Daily Bell Work

      • 15% Homework 

     

     

    Homework (20 minutes avg. a night Mon.-Thurs):

    *All homework for the week will be due on Friday.

    *Homework will consist of:

      • 1-3 math problems with shown work or written explanation Monday-Thursday

      • 3 learning logs a week (time to complete in class)

      • 50 minutes of their iReady personal math pathway completed every week with notes template (some class time given)
