Our mission is to diligently pursue through all avenues the education, training, and services that will lead to each student's attainment of optimal health to achieve his/her highest potential as a learner.
Health Services Team
It is a collaborative team effort to ensure the health and safety of all students. The health services team includes school nurses, LVNs, HSCs, HCAs, and HAs.
School Nurse
A school nurse has a baccalaureate or higher degree, and is a credentialed school nurse and a Registered Nurse.
School nurses play a crucial role in the health and well-being of students. School nurse's duties include:
- Conduct mandated screenings, such as vision and hearing.
- Case Manage chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, etc.
- Emergency Care for injuries and acute illnesses at school.
- Health Education for staff, parents, and students.
- Health Advocacy- Nurses are the liaison between Physician offices, parents, and students.
- Compliance and reporting
- Provide communicable disease control
- Train Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP).
Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)
Licensed vocational nurses provide various health support services to students who may need daily nursing care. They may include:
- Diabetic Care
- G-Tube Feedings
- Catheterization
- Tracheostomy Care
- Medication
Health Care Assistants (HCA)
Health Care Assistants (HCA) are unlicensed personnel who have been trained to assist the school nurse and perform other duties that include:
- Immunization Compliance
- Outreach to families
- Facilitate and arrange Big Smiles, hearing clinics, vision clinics, and much more.
- Teach CPR
- First Aid
- Compiles Data
Health Aide (HA)
- Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s)
- First Aide
- Assist students with medical needs
Healthy Start Coordinators (HSC)
- Implement case management plans and referrals for tier 2 and 3 services
Staff CPR/First Aid Classes & TB Risk Assessments
