    Biography

    EDUCATION:  Major Acevedo was born in San Jose, California and graduated from William C. Overfelt High School in 1981. He earned an Associate's Degree in Marketing Management from De Anza College in 1994, a Bachelors Degree from Excelsior College in 2001 (with a majority of his course work being completed at San Jose State University). In 2010 he graduated from the Army's Command and General Staff College and went on to complete a Master's Degree in International Relations from Troy University, Alabama, in 2011.
     
    CAREER:  Major Acevedo served 7 years of active duty in the Army after High School, and then transioned into part time service with the Army National Guard to attend college. While attending college he gained work experience in reatail sales mangement, federal government contract management at NASA, and private sector procurement in Silicon Valley's electronics industry; while continuing to advance his military career through the National Guard.  He held various leadership positions up to Platoon Sergeant and then as an officer after having recieved a Commission as a Second Lieutenant through the Army Officer's Candidate School and returned to full time military service in 1999. Through his military career he felt most fortunate to have commanded three outstanding unit's (Co B 2/159 IN, Co C Co C 1/185 IN, and 349th QM Co), and to have served our great nation on multiple combat and Peace Keeping deployments. Major Acevedo's culminating assignments, included two tours as Battalion Executive Officer and as a Brigade Operations Officer. He retired from active duty in 2017, with an exemplary record of service. He moved through the ranks from Private to Platoon Sargeant, then from Second Lieutenant to Major. His most notable awards include a Bronze Star Medal, 4 Meritorious Service Medals, 6 Army Commendation Medals, 8 Army Achievement Medals, 2 National Defense Service Medals, Kosovo Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, a United Nations Medal, and an Expert Infantryman's Badge.
     
    TEACHING: Upon nearing retirement Major Acevedo realized that he had an opportunity to start a new career in a field that he had grown to greatley admire... teaching. He now holds a Cleared California Teaching Credential in Special Subjects, ROTC, and continues to serve as Franklin High School's JROTC Senior Army Instructor, He is very greatful for the opportunity to teach America's future leaders a subject that is very near and dear him, "good citizenship."
