HEALTH ACADEMY

• SOPHOMORE YEAR
  • Students can be certified in several medical skills, including monitoring vital signs, measuring height and weight, and testing sight and hearing.
  • Students have the opportunity to earn certification in Adult and Infant CPR, First Aid, and AED (Automated External Defibrillator).
• JUNIOR YEAR
  • Students have the opportunity to earn college credit for the Medical Terminology course offered.
  • Students selected by the Health Professions teacher will intern at various medical facilities and shadow medical assistants.
• SENIOR YEAR
  • Students can either intern as a MA (Medical Assistant), or in the pre-schools we have on our campus.
    • Students who intern at the pre-school will work with both developmentally-on-track children, and developmentally-delayed children.

The Health Academy is a once in a lifetime experience that students are privileged to partake in. 

 

MEDICAL ASSISTANT PROGRAM

Weber Institute’s Health Program provides a highly effective route for students looking to pursue a career as a medical assistant in a hospital or a private practice. Students have the opportunity to complete an accelerated medical assistant program available to them during the latter two years of their high school career. Students in this program enjoy the benefits of small class sizes, versatile CTE resources and many layers of support. Medical assistant students engage in medical internships to gain experience in performing various administrative duties and clinical duties under the direction of a physician. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing and coding information for insurance purposes. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examinations, EKG’s, basic laboratory skills, drawing blood, and administering medications as directed by the teacher. In addition, students  learn about infection control and universal precautions as well as the importance of medical and legal considerations, HIPPA, and medical terminology. CPR, TB skin tests and flu shots are required for every student participating in the medical assistant program. Upon successful completion and meeting the age requirement, students can obtain their NCCT Medical Assisting certificate from the state of California.
