  • Technology Academy

    The Technology Academy focuses on experiential learning opportunities based on current technology careers (i.e. graphic arts, CADD, and information technology). Like all the academies at Weber, the Technology Academy seeks to integrate career and technical education with core academic classes and empower students with experiential learning opportunities in the local community. 

    Technology Academy students take a wide range of technology-related courses that will prepare them for postsecondary opportunities. Along with core academic courses, classes such as Computer Assisted Drafting and Design (CADD), Web Page Design, Video Game Design/Computer Programming, and Multimedia are just some of the classes offered in the Technology Academy. Students are exposed to multiple software applications, such as Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Bryce, Flash, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk 3D Studio Max and many more.

    Once students have completed enough CTE and core academic classes, students have the opportunity of working part-time using their technology-based skills at various local employers. Furthermore, Technology Academy students develop websites that cater to local businesses or non-profit organizations. The Weber Design program enables Technology Academy students the opportunity to showcase their designs through “competitions”. These competitions, sponsored by business partners, allow students the opportunity to gain authentic work experience on campus during the normal school day.

    Additionally, the Technology Academy is actively involved in SkillsUSA. SkillsUSA is a dynamic organization whose goal is to produce “World class workers and responsible American Citizens” (SkillsUSA, 2006) focusing on the promotion of Career and Technical Education. This award-winning program and curriculum emphasize communication skills, ethics, conflict resolution, goal setting, and time management.

    Like other academies at Weber Institute, students are required to complete a portfolio which is considered a capstone of the educational experiences of the students. Past portfolio topics have included: Using CAD to construct a model home, using computer animation programs like FLASH to produce websites, computer programming skills to produce a video game, etc.

     

    DIGITAL ART, GRAPHICS & VIDEO PRODUCTION

    Weber Motion Graphics Studio offers students the opportunity to learn graphic arts, animation, audio and video production in a professional production studio environment. We have professional grade video equipment, cameras, lighting, computers, green screens, newscasting sets, as well as the latest Adobe CS6 Graphics and Video Editing Software. Students can earn an Industry accepted Adobe Certificate in CS6 Illustrator, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro and After Effects.
