We are quickly approaching the time of year where SUSD eighth grade students explore various options for high school.  We hope your students and their families will consider Edward C. Merlo Institute of Environmental Technology as one of those options.  “The mission of Edward C. Merlo is to provide a secure and nurturing environment that promotes diversity, equity, rigor, and environmental awareness. We are committed to graduating self-sufficient, independent, and socially responsible adults.”  Merlo students select from three Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways.  These pathways include Environmental Resources, Engineering Technology, and Visual Media Arts.  We continue to add dual enrollment courses and articulated courses with Delta College, which provide Merlo students with college credits while attending high school.   Merlo is also a SkillsUSA school, which provides all our student's instruction, which will enable them to develop Technical Skills, Workplace Skills, and Personal Skills to ensure career and academic success.   Students involved in the SkillsUSA may compete in competitions throughout the school year, where they demonstrate the skills they have acquired. 

Just as with our comprehensive high schools, Merlo offers clubs such as MEChA, MESA, and many others.  We offer elective courses such as Mock trial, which competes in local and national competitions, AVID, Leadership, and PLUS.  Students interested in sports may participate in intermural sports, where Merlo completes against other specialty schools in the District.  They are also eligible to participate in any sports offered at their school of residence.
