Welcome to the 2024-25 school year, Merlo Wolves!

My name is Justin Moeckli, and I am excited to be Merlo’s new principal.  I have worked in education for 24 years, and have served in district and site-level administrative roles for the last 7 years.  It is my goal to ensure that all Merlo students experience success in rigorous learning and that they feel supported becoming college, career, and community ready.  At Merlo, we will strive to provide a safe learning environment so that students are empowered to excel academically and socially.  It is our mission to promote diversity, equity, rigor, and environmental awareness.

When students and families choose Merlo, they choose a unique specialty high school where students have opportunities to take courses in our three pathways: Environmental Resources, Engineering Technology, and Graphic Design. These pathways allow our Merlo graduates to have a depth of knowledge in such fields as energy and power technology, telecommunications, 3D modeling, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, graphic arts, animation, and game design.  Through Merlo’s partnership with Delta College, students at Merlo can also take dual credit courses, meaning they receive both high school and college credit for their successfully completed classes.  Because of this, Students graduating from Merlo with dual credit courses are able to move through college at an accelerated rate.

Additionally, to support students with their rigorous studies, Merlo offers the AVID elective class.  The AVID elective class is a program that supports student learning through research based best practices which use writing, inquiry activities, collaborative protocols, organizational tools, reading strategies.  The strategies used in the AVID elective are also used in other content classes so that all students learning is deepened schoolwide.  Students who successfully complete 3-years or more of the AVID elective class have a 98% acceptance rate when applying to colleges and universities.  If you would like to go directly to a four-year university after graduating high school, the AVID elective class can help you with this goal.

On behalf of the Merlo staff, thank you for selecting our high school. Should you have any questions, please reach out to a member of our team, or should you like to contact me directly, I can be reached at jmoeckli@stocktonusd.net or my office line at 209.933.7160 ex 4702.
