Transition to Rigorous Graduation Requirements Timeline
Having rigorous graduation requirements for all students that match university admission expectations better prepares graduates for more opportunities. Therefore, Board Policy 6146.1 is being implemented to increase graduation expectations and to align high school graduation to the University of California’s A-G requirements. The rigorous graduation requirements will be phased in with each graduating class beginning with the class of 2021. Below is the implementation timeline:
Class of 2024 (current 12th graders), 2025 (current 11th graders)
- Earn 210 Credits
Class of 2026 (current 10th graders)
- Earn 230 Credits
Class of 2027 (current 9th graders)
- Earn 230 Credits
- Complete 2 years of World Languages, 1 year of VAPA, and 1 year of College Preparatory Electives
Class of 2028 (current 8th graders)
- Earn 230 Credits
- Complete 2 years of World Languages, 1 year of VAPA, and 1 year of College Preparatory Electives
- Complete 3 years of Math
Class of 2029 (current 7th graders)
- Earn 230 Credits
- Complete 2 years of World Languages, 1 year of VAPA, and 1 year of College Preparatory Electives
- Complete 3 years of Math
- Complete 3 years of Science
- Complete 1 year of Ethnic Studies
