Hello Rivercat Students and Families! My name is Amanda Walther and I serve as the Program Specialist at Monroe. This is my 17th year in education and it has been a privilege to serve the Monroe community during these 17 years! Prior to taking on the role of Program Specialist, I taught Kindergarden, 2nd, 3rd, 6th, and 7th grade. This wide range of experience helped pave the way for me to serve as Program Specialist.
At Monroe we use various programs and curriculum designed to meet the diverse needs of our student population. Some of these include:
- Curriculum
- Benchmark ELA/ELD for K - 6
- Savvas ELA/ELD for Middle School
- Ready Math for K - 8
- Studies Weekly History-Social Science for K - 5
- McGraw Hill Impact for 6-8 History-Social Science
- Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for K - 8 Science
- Supplemental Curriculum and Programs
- SIPPS Reading Program for K - 3
- Accelerated Reader for K - 8
- AVID Elementary (K-5)
- AVID Secondary (6-8)
- iReady Personalized Instruction
As program specialist, I work closely with teachers and administration to ensure our curriculum and programs meet the needs of our students and the goals outlined in our School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA). One measure used to determine how well our programs are working is the use of standardized local and state assessments. We assess all our students 3 times a year using the iReady Diagnostic. Our English Learner students complete the English Language Proficency Assessment for California (ELPAC) in the spring. Also, in the spring, students in grades 3-8 complete the Smarter Balanced Assessments in English and Math. Students in grades 5 and 8 will also complete the Smarter Balanced Assessment in Science. The results of these assessments help us in making decisions to meet the needs of our students at Monroe.
