Work Permits
If you are not an SUSD student, please go to your home district to apply for a work permit.
Where do I Obtain a Work Permit?
- Beginning August 1, 2024, all work permits will be processed at the high school sites.
- Students need to check in with the Counseling office to find the procedure for that site.
How to Obtain a Work Permit
- Students eligible for a work permit must have a 2.0 GPA and satisfactory attendance. These will be confirmed by the school staff and student records.
- Students will print out the Form B1-1 Statement of Intent to Employ a Minor and Request for Work Permit-Certificate of Age or pick one up from their school office.
- Students will complete Minor’s Information and School Information.
- Parent or legal guardians must sign their portion of the form.
- Students must return completed Form B1-1 with all signatures.
- Typical processing time is 24-48 hours. Students will be contacted at the phone number listed on the application when the Work Permit is ready to be signed and picked up.
- Students will sign the permit in person with the school staff when they pick up their permit. Bring photo ID.
- Students then take the completed Permit to Employ and Work (Form B1-4) back to their employer.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
- Work Permit Applications must be signed by the employer.
- A parent or guardian must also sign the application.
- The student’s social security number is required to process a work permit.
- Work Permit paperwork may NOT be emailed or scanned.
- Student ID and age will be verified through district records.
- The completed “official” work permit is signed by the student and the approved administrator, so the student MUST BE PRESENT to pick it up.
- Each new job site requires a new work permit.
- All work permits expire 5 days after the new school year begins.

Students do NOT need a work permit in order to search for a job. The Work Permit is only assigned to the student AFTER the employer signs the B1-1 Form showing that they intend to hire the student.
Students that have a job offer need to submit a Form B1-1 Application for a Work Permit signed by the employer that intends to hire them.
ALL Work Permits EXPIRE when a new school year starts in August. Students need to have their permits renewed each school year.
To RENEW a Work Permit, submit a new Form B1-1 Application to the appropriate staff on the high school campus the student attends.
