Chronic Absenteeism
-
Did you know?
Chronic absenteeism means your child has missed 10% or more of the school year for any reason to date. In the first semester, that means missing only 8 days of school! Students who are chronically absent demonstrate lower academic achievement levels compared to their classmates who attend school every day.
When your child is absent, you have five school days to excuse the absence. After five days, the absence becomes an unexcused absence. If your child is too ill to attend school, be sure to call the school every day they are absent.
Students should not come to school if they are running a fever, vomiting, have diarrhea or an unexplained rash.
After fourteen days of excused absences, you will be required to provide a doctor’s note for each excused absence.
