Harrison’s Cell Phone/Electronics Policy

School Board Policy #5131 Rational: Except for prior consent for health reasons, possessions or use of electronic signaling devices, including but not limited to pagers, beepers and cellular/digital telephones is prohibited. No student shall be prohibited from possessing or using an electronic signaling device that is determined by a licensed physician or surgeon to be essential for the student’s health and use of which is limited to health related purposes. (Education Code 48901.5)

Harrison’s Electronics Policy (CA Ed Code: Electronics that are heard, seen or cause a distraction or disruption will be confiscated and turned in to the Discipline Office).

Students conduct code: ITEMS NOT ALLOWED ON SCHOOL CAMPUSES: The following items are not allowed on school campuses. If a student brings any of items listed below, they will be confiscated and later released to a parent. Subsequent offenses will result in disciplinary action, including detention and/or out of school suspension.

Electronic Devices • Cell phones and other electronic devices must not disrupt the educational environment of SUSD. SUSD acknowledges the need for students and families to communicate with cell phones. SUSD also acknowledges technology is a powerful tool that enhances learning and enables students to access a vast amount of academic resources. Use of cell phones and other personal electronic equipment on SUSD campuses is at the discretion of the site administration and classroom teacher and must align with established school and classroom rules and procedures.

Harrison’s Policy: If a student and/or his/her parent decide it is important for the student to bring cell phones or other electronic devices to school, please remember:

1. If an electronic device is on and/or makes a noise, vibrates or otherwise brings attention to the device, then it is creating a disruption.
2. These items must be in the off position and not displayed during the entire school day. Misuse of electronic devices will result in consequences in addition to confiscation of the device.
3. Harrison Elementary School and Stockton Unified School District are NOT responsible for the loss and/or theft of any of these types of devices.
4. Disciplinary consequences will be assigned to any student who is in violation of this policy.

Consequences:

1st Offense: Item is confiscated and documented. The student must come to the office and sign for the item before it is released.

2nd Offense: The item is confiscated and documented. A parent or other person listed as an emergency contact may come to the office and sign for the item.

3rd Offense: The item is confiscated and documented. Item will be held in the Office until the end of the semester. A parent or person listed as an emergency contact may come and sign for the item after the end of the Semester.

4th Offense: The item is confiscated and documented. Item will be held in the Office until the end of the year. A parent or person listed as an emergency contact may come and sign for the item after the end of the year.
