Attendance Procedures
Attendance is a critical part of your child’s high school success. This includes arriving to school and being in class on time daily by 8:10 a.m. The following are the school’s attendance policies.
General
- Students who become ill at school must check out at the Office.
- Students leaving school for any other reason must be checked out in the Office.
- Any absence not specifically excused by the school will be an unexcused absence.
Changes in Student Information/Emergency Contacts
- If your child is severely injured, becomes ill (fever or throwing up), or needs a clean set of clothes at school, we will make every effort to contact parents.
- The office needs current telephone numbers in case you need to be reached during the day.
- Please be sure that your emergency contact information on each child’s Student Emergency Card is filled out completely and accurately.
- Please update the emergency card information as changes occur. If you have any address, home or work phone number changes during the school year, it is very important that families notify the office.
- The emergency card should also list the names and numbers of at least three people we can call if we are unable to contact you. Please be sure that the people you list as emergency contacts are aware of this and are willing and able to take responsibility for your child.
- This is also important to ensure that families will receive all school-related mailings, phone calls, and emails.
When to stay Home from School
- Students should not come to school if they are running a fever, vomiting, have diarrhea or an unexplained rash.
Attendance Rules and Procedures
- Excused absences from school will be (1) illness, (2) death in family, (3) doctor appointment, (4) Quarantine under the direction of a county or city health officer.
- To be classified as an excused absence, all absences must be verified by a telephone call and a note from parents.
- For pre-arranged absences, parents must contact the office and teacher to request missed work from the teachers of all missed classes 48 hours prior to the event.
- Absences from school for any reason other than the above mentioned will not be excused by the school.
- Student absences are considered unexcused if the parent does not contact the
How do I clear an absence?
- Please call the office the day of your student’s absence @ (209) 933-7205.
- If you have verification of your student’s absence, it must be given to the designated school site official within five school days from the last day of absence.
Chronic Absence
- Chronic absence means your child has missed 10% or more of the school year for any reason to date. In the first semester, that meant missing only 8 days of school! Students who are chronically absent demonstrate lower academic achievement levels than their classmates who attend school every day.
- When your child is absent, you have five school days to excuse the absence. After five days the absent becomes an unexcused absence. If your child is too ill to attend school, be sure to call your child’s school every day of the absence.
- After fourteen days of excused absence, you will be required to provide a doctor’s note to the school for every excused absence after that point.
Make-up Work
- Work missed because of absences should be made up when the student returns to school. Students will be given a day for everyday absent to complete missing work.
- Makeup provisions vary depending upon the type of absence.
- Teachers are granted discretion in setting deadlines for make-up work within these guidelines:
- Unexcused – work missed for this reason may be entered as zero credit. If make-up is permitted in any class, the deadline may be set at whatever time the teacher determines is appropriate.
- Excused – it is the responsibility of the student to check with each teacher and arrange for making up missed assignments. A student will be given the amount of days excused to complete the missing work and/or assessments.
- Pre-arranged –to be used when students know they will be absent.
- It is student/parent’s responsibility to make arrangements with the teacher to get the make-up work and to complete the assessments.
