SECA MISSION AND EXPECTED SCHOOL-WIDE LEARNING RESULTS
Our Mission
Stockton Early College Academy provides our students with equitable educational opportunities, prepares students to be problem solvers and college-ready learners, and encourages them to be responsible, compassionate, contributors to society.
What We Do
We seek to have our students experience a rigorous college preparatory high school education (CP/Honors and Advanced Placement classes), augmented with concurrent transferable (IGETC Protocol) college-level courses in all academic disciplines. From this foundation, we expect each student to successfully matriculate to, and graduate from, a four-year university or college.
In support of the above Mission Statement, we hold the following expected school-wide learning results (ESLR’s) for our students:
ESLR #1
STUDENTS WILL DEMONSTRATE ACADEMIC AND CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS- Students will demonstrate competency in reading, writing, language, and mathematics.
- Students will demonstrate organizational and study skills.
- Students will use technology to gather information, process the information into a new format, and communicate the information.
- Students will be concurrently enrolled in high school and college courses all four years.
ESLR #2
STUDENTS WILL BE RESPONSIBLE, ACCOUNTABLE LEARNERS.
- Students will set, achieve, and evaluate goals, making them personally responsible for their learning.
- Students will participate in activities outside of the classroom that augments learning.
- Students will apply a variety of strategies to manage complex issues.
- Students will demonstrate good study and work habits.
ESLR #3
STUDENTS WILL DEMONSTRATE A VARIETY OF STRATEGIES TO MANAGE INTERPERSONAL ISSUES (OR RELATIONSHIPS)- Students will explore methods to enhance interpersonal relationships.
- Students will learn and apply positive strategies for problem resolution.
- Students will participate as collaborative members of the school.
- Students will participate in a curriculum that promotes cultural awareness and understanding.
SECA STUDENT PROFILE
Although all students are eligible to apply to SECA, in order to succeed in a challenging and rigorous high school and collegiate environment, prospective students must have the potential for high academic achievement. Generally speaking, students should meet the following criteria:
- Potential and motivation for excellent school attendance and citizenship, with minimal discipline issues
- Strong personal desire and determination to attend a four-year university
- Excellent potential to prosper, with support, both academically and socially, in a highly rigorous College Preparatory (Honors) and/or Advanced Placement curriculum at the Academy, and fully transferable (IGETC Protocol) college classes
From those students who demonstrate the required academic potential, at least 75% of our students should meet one or more of the following at-risk mission-based criteria:
- First in the immediate family (parents and siblings) to attend, and graduate from, a four-year university or college
- From an ethnicity that has been historically underserved in 4-year colleges and universities
- From a low-income family (qualifies for free/reduced lunch)
- Faced with other special circumstances that may be obstacles to future academic achievement in a traditional high school environment, and for whom a smooth transition into post-secondary education may be problematic
