In-Home Care Class

The In-Home Care class is for any adult learner who has a goal of working in the in-home care industry. In this class, we will learn the skills necessary to be an effective and employable in-home care employee. We will also study the many career choices, the requirements, client conditions, client communication, documentation, professional communication, and cultural diversity.
Working in the in-home care industry is about relationships, and relationships are about communication. Each student will have many chances to speak, listen, role-play and participate in group discussions.
Course Goals:

To gain the skills needed to apply, interview and successfully get an in-home care job.

To understand common elderly diseases.

To understand pain and its effects on the elderly.

To be knowledgeable about elder abuse and neglect.

To understand cultural differences in the workplace.

To be knowledgeable about infection control.

To be proficient in general client care.

To understand elderly nutrition and get meal prep tips.

To be knowledgeable about the equipment used for client care.

To understand the basics of housekeeping.
