Our students are surrounded by a village of caring adults including teachers, staff and parents who work together to create an inclusive school culture where ALL students can feel safe to learn at high levels.

    Counseling Mission

The San Joaquin Elementary School Counseling Program focuses on the current and  future wellbeing of every  student, regardless of current ability or limitation, through a comprehensive program that  addresses academic and social/ emotional needs. Through our counseling program,  we will begin the process to lift our youth out of poverty and scarcity early, by ensuring all of our students are prepared to learn to be college, career and community ready in high school.  Our grand focus is to close achievement gaps and create systemic change as necessary, resulting in youth who can holistically achieve high academic success, personal/social health, and a bright productive future.

The SAP Process: As school counselors, we advocate for students through the Students Assistance Program (SAP). SAP is a school- based approach to provide focused services to students needing interventions and programs that address academic performance attitude and attendance. The SAP process brings together schools, communities, parents and students in a working partnership in order to provide early identification and referral services for students. As a process, SAP identifies challenging students ,assess students needs and provide them with support and referral to appropriate resources. The overarching goal of SAP is to remove barriers to education so that a student may achieve academically.

The SAP process is a Tiered System of support:

Tier 1: Universal classroom intervention & structures

Tier 2: Selective intervention & Care Team
