Mrs. Rita Barrera

My name is Rita Barrera and I have had the honor of being an El Dorado Eagle since 2017. I currently teach 7th and 8th-grade science and strategic math, but I also have a background in reading intervention and special education. I recently completed my master’s degree in STEM education with a focus in mathematics and I can’t share to share all that I have learned.

My teaching philosophy

I believe that education should feed curiosity. To that end, I encourage my students to ask big questions, teach what they have learned and apply their discoveries to real-life problems.

I believe that, if I want the best from my students, I must be willing to give them the best experience that I can offer.

And I believe that the values and self-esteem of my students are precious and should be nurtured within the classroom.

When I’m not teaching at El Dorado

When I’m not teaching at El Dorado, I try to spend quality time with my husband (Andy), our sons (Kevin and Eli), our dogs (Jack, Maggy, and Tai), and my large extended family. I also like to take on craft projects, like sewing and soap making. And when I finally take a break and relax, I love sipping a cup of tea while I watch anime.
